Beginner’s Meditation

Part 1 — Sitting and Walking Meditation

Buddhist meditation begins with noticing what is happening in your body and mind in the here and now. You do not need to stop your thoughts or become calm immediately. Whenever you notice that your attention has wandered, gently return and begin again.

This practice emphasizes the abdomen's rising and falling as the main focus of attention. Alternating between sitting meditation and walking meditation not only helps you develop mindfulness but also enhances your experience with mindfulness practices, allowing you to cultivate awareness in both stillness and movement. Listening to Dhamma music can further enrich this meditative experience.

Before you begin, notice your body as it sits. Recognize: “I am sitting.” Feel your posture directly; you don't need to create a mental picture.
